In a previous blog posting (http://colorwerx.blogspot.com/2010/05/san-francisco-giants-rgb-optimized.html), I presented the San Francisco Giants' graphics for 2010, and mentioned their unique usage of Metallic Gold. In the official Style Guide files, the Gold is labeled "Matte". Now, one cannot specify certain portions of a logo or wordmark to print on matte paper stock, while the other colors print on coated paper stock, so I had come up with a solution of using a now-out-of-date Pantone substrate of Coated-Varnished (C-V). This was a presentation in a previous Pantone Metallics Formula Guide where the color was printed on coated stock, and then a varnish was applied on top of the ink. I felt that this color designation represented a not-so-shiny version of the color. After more research, and with consulting with other experts in the field, I have changed this designation to a straight "C" (for "coated") designation. The thought is that the original designers were implying that the thread and textile/fabric matching was to be done with non-metallic medium. Actual spot prints of these graphics clearly show a standard metallic ink is used.

Anyway, here are the official graphics for the Giants for 2012...
